More Snow! Will winter ever end!!

Another snowstorm and more damage to my vegetable garden! One side of my chicken wire fence has fallen over. However it's making a cool effect during this wet snowstorm on 3/8/13. It looks like a little snow wave! I keep reminding myself that spring is only two weeks away and planting season is two months away!!!! After this crazy winter I can't wait to get out in the garden!

My Garden in the Blizzard!

I feel like spring is even farther away now that my part CT received over 30 inches in the Blizzard of 2013 aka Nemo (The Weather Channel's name for it!). A day after the storm and I'm still snowed in! My street hasn't even been plowed yet! My backyard is covered in close to 3 feet of snow and drifts that go to the top of the fence!

My vegetable garden is buried! As you can see in the photo below all that remains of my garden is the very top of the wire fencing!!! It's an amazing site to be seen! I'm glad I put my blueberry bushes in the shed a few weeks ago when we got the near 0 degree cold temps! If hadn't they would be crushed under the heavy snowfall!

Also check out my back deck! The snow is up to the door handle and we could get out that way! It also didn't help that we left a shovel out there lol!

Cold Morning!! 1/24/13

Temps got pretty close to zero this morning, the coldest it's been in a few years! Good thing I moved my potted blueberry bushes, blackberry bush, and Rosemary plant into the shed last Monday...the last time it was ABOVE FREEZING!

January Thaw brings out some Mint!

After a few days of mild temps and foggy days it seems the January thaw is coming to an end. However with the few days of warmer weather I found some mint growing under old branches! This tends to happen a lot in January thaws, if it gets really warm some early blooming flowers like crocus and of course weeds. This being the first year I have mint growing in my backyard I was surprised to see the the green little leaves! Of course with snow forecast and much colder temps this mint will probably die back again.

Indoor Rosemary update 12/13/12

So I have yet to buy new pots for my indoor Rosemary plants but that's not stopping them from growing! Over the last few weeks the roots of the three sprigs of Rosemary have really taken off. The roots are almost to the bottom of the vase. Although the long roots create an interesting and beautiful aesthetic, it won't be long till the roots are too big for the vase and it becomes damaging to the plants. Another good sign of the Rosemary taking to the indoor life is new growth on top of the plants. Each sprig has grown by at least an inch! My next goal is to get each sprig into its own pot, hopefully before Christmas!

We've got Roots! Rosemary roots for indoor herbs!

The rosemary sprigs I placed in a vase two weeks ago on a windowsill have finally taken root!

The three sprigs I cut from my potted rosemary plant on my back deck have survived the transition indoors.

Ill let the sprigs get a little stronger before planting them in a pot for the rest of winter on the windowsill. Just goes to show you when the growing season ends outside it can still continue indoors!

Attempting to grow Rosemary inside!

Now that we have had a number if freezes and tomorrow might even bring snow! I decided to try and grow some rosemary inside. First step was to find a vase and then cut some sprigs of rosemary. I cut the stems at an angle like you would for cut flowers. Then I placed the three branches in a vase. Hopefully the branches will take root in the water and ill be able to plant them in a small pot to grow indoors over the winter!
