Beautiful, Bountiful Berries!

Growing your own fruit is pretty easy, especially when it comes to growing berries! I'm growing blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. I have three varieties of blueberry plants in containers, two varieties of raspberries and one blackberry plant. I wish I had more space for more plants!

At this point in the season, the berries are all starting to grow. With the growth of the berries also comes the growth of my excitement for their harvest! Homegrown berries are the best tasting berries!
Below are some of the berries growing in my garden as of mid June.

The first photo is of a blackberry!

The second photo is of a developing cluster of fall gold raspberries.

The final photo is of a cluster of blueberries. These are pretty much done growing, just need to turn blue now!

Garden Filling In! 5-18-15

Finally, after 23 days with no measurable rain here in Connecticut, we got about .33 inches of rain on Saturday morning. Not a lot but enough to give my garden a boost. Add in some sunshine and warm temps on Sunday and my garden is starting to fill in nicely!

I love the way my garden looks!

Radishes all lined up!

Turnip getting bigger!

Kale is getting big!!!

The vegetable garden isn't the only area doing well. My blackberry plant is taking off as well!

Even the flower buds are forming, which will eventually turn into delicious blackberries!

Today's Harvest! 7-21-13

Today was the first day I can say I really harvested anything from my garden because there was actually a variety if stuff to grab! I picked blueberries from two blueberry bushes, I picked a couple of  blackberries, a few Juliet tomatoes an a few cherry tomatoes!
Totals:
6 Blackberries
3 Juliet Tomatoes
2 cherry Tomatoes
8 Blueberries

It's not much but with a very rainy June and now a very hot July  I'm lucky most o my plants are still alive!

First tomato of the season! 7/19/13

First ripe tomato of the year is a deformed cherry tomato! It's been a tough spring for my tomato plants with way too much rain!  Also picked a handful of blueberries and a blackberry!  Harvests should become more frequent and plentiful as the month goes on!

Heavy Rain prep and improvise

With the heavy rain of tropical depression Andrea heading our way this afternoon and night I've been preparing my garden.  One thing I wanted to do is tie the lower branches of my blackberry bush up.  I wanted to do this to keep the very new berries from hitting the ground and being covered in mud!  However I was out string so I had to improvise.  So I took some short bamboo stakes I had from last years garden and created crutch like supports for each of the three branches. Hopefully this will be enough to keep the heavy rain from pushing these low branches into the ground!

Cold Morning!! 1/24/13

Temps got pretty close to zero this morning, the coldest it's been in a few years! Good thing I moved my potted blueberry bushes, blackberry bush, and Rosemary plant into the shed last Monday...the last time it was ABOVE FREEZING!
