Fall Gold Raspberries April 19, 2015

My Fall Gold Raspberries have had a hard time taking off. Last year was the first year they were in the ground the whole time and unfortunately the plants didn't produce many canes, never mind any fruit!

These raspberries are suppose to grow well with heritage raspberries (which I have planted a few feet away in their own bed). However, unlike the traditional red raspberry of the heritage plant, the fall gold is suppose to produce beautiful yellow/gold berries, usually with a great harvest in the late summer/early fall season.

After the coldest 3 month period on record in my area of Connecticut, I was worried that my raspberries would be damaged or killed off. However, it seems the prolong snowpack may have actually helped to keep the plants insulated. Now, the raspberries canes are beginning to  lead out and I noticed a lot more smaller canes growing in the fall gold bed!

It may be small but it's a start to a healthy crop later this year or next yea! I can't wait to try a fall gold raspberry!

Growing a Good Complexion: My Latest article on Hubpages

I haven't been writing on Hubpages.com that often lately but finally got around to writing a new article the other night!  After the continuing traffic success of my article Growing Vegetables from Kitchen Scraps, I thought I would write another article about gardening.  So I decided to write an article connecting the benefits of growing your own healthy food and a better complexion.  I have to admit my skin isn't flawless, as I am sure many of you reading this also have some skin aliments.  Eating some of the foods listed in my article will dramatically improve your skin problems, it may not solve them but it will definitely help!!  The best thing is  I have listed fruits and vegetables that you can grow in your own backyard, eating them at peak freshness when the nutrients are the best!!! The new article is called:

July 10th, 2012 Harvest!

I knew one of the pickle-bush cucumbers would be ready today! They only grow to about 4 inches but they sure look delicious can't wait for more to come! I also picked some garden beans today! I only had one bean plant survive from my initial planting but I planted a bunch more in the past week which will hopefully take off! I also noticed I have an eggplant growing!
